Driving Automotive growth beyond borders

Hi, I’m Steve Nash, a lifelong automotive expert with a proven record of leading successful commercial growth across multiple world markets.

Bio

Steve Nash is a highly experienced, multi-award winning automotive executive with over 40 years experience.

Steve began his automotive career after graduating and has worked with a number of brands including Chrysler and Renault but the bulk of his career was spent with BMW UK, initially running a retail dealer operation in London. Steve then commenced a 26 year engagement at the manufacturer, 15 years of which were as a Board member with Group responsibilities for BMW, MINI and Rolls Royce, as well as Rover and Land Rover, whilst under BMW ownership.

As well as overseeing Group Aftersales operations worth significantly in excess of £1Bn at retail values, Steve oversaw both car and parts storage & distribution (import as well as export of MINI product), all Call Centre operations and the BMW Group Academy.  He also established BMW’s Right Hand Drive Engineering function.

Whilst still with BMW Steve became a non-executive Director of the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI), quickly taking on the role of Chairman and, latterly, President; roles in which he served for 10 years.

Eventually, in January 2013, Steve took over the role of Chief Executive at the IMI tasked, amongst other things, with commercialising multiple work-streams that had formerly been funded through the Institute’s role as a Sector Skills Council.

Steve held the role of CEO at the IMI for 11 years, during which time he was responsible for putting strategies in place to grow membership from a low of 8k members to more than 120k.  The Institute’s Awarding operations grew considerably as did overseas engagements, which included more than 50 countries and establishing a commercial entity in China.  He also championed national skills standards for Technicians engaging with new technologies (Autonomous, Connected and Electrified vehicles) under the IMI TechSafe banner, gaining Government endorsement.

Steve became a Trustee of automotive industry charity Ben in 2014. He served as Chairman from 2018-2025 and oversaw the biggest strategic change in the charity’s 120 years history, transitioning from operators of multiple Care facilities, plus a retirement village, to a purely Health & Wellbeing based charity, in response to industry demands.  Steve remains a Board Advisor at Ben.

In 2025 Steve established Steve Nash Automotive Ltd, leveraging his considerable automotive and non-executive experience to provide NED services, mentoring, strategic and commercial support to individuals and organisations in automotive.

Steve was inducted into the Motoring Hall of Fame in 2023 and also became an Automotive Management (AM) Hall of Fame inductee in 2025.  He is also the holder of multiple industry Awards.
